Special Police

The Greece Special Police Unit is made up of volunteers who assist the Town of Greece and the Greece Police Department. The unit is called upon to assist with traffic and crowd control during special events, emergencies and storms.

Prior to 1997 this unit was known as the Auxiliary Police, run by Monroe County. The Auxiliary Police Unit under the direction of Monroe County began in the early 1950s. In 1997 the Greece Special Police Unit began and is the largest of these units in Monroe County. There are 55 allotted positions approved by the Town Board. They serve under the Greece Police Department and are overseen by the Chief of Police.

Interested individuals should call 581-6325. Training classes start in October of each year. All persons who apply for Special Police Officer position will go through a background check, interview process, and physical. All training, uniforms and mandatory equipment are provided.
